What started out as one small pot has grown into a whole world of concrete.

In 2014, I started Little Concrete Jungle with the desire to integrate more plants into my life indoors, combined with some DIY. At the time, I didn’t have much time to garden outside, so my windowsill became my indoor jungle. As a parent, you spend a lot of time by your kitchen sink window! Using an old, second-hand plastic picnic cup, I created my first pot design, which I called "Windowsill Pot 1." Over time, I expanded that cup-based range to five different shaped pots. As you can imagine, the range grew, with sizes ranging from extra small to too big to comfortably carry.

During this time, I also wanted to bring concrete into my home in other ways (other than the polished concrete slab in our home theater!). My childhood was spent surrounded by old wood and concrete in farm buildings, so I’ve always loved both as materials. Combining my passion for interior design—which includes ethnic/tribal items, biophilic design, and the industrial loft aesthetic—with my love for concrete and wood, it made perfect sense to start a homewares range. I began with candle holders for tealights, followed by trays, bowls, ring holders/trees, and now even wall hangings.

The jewellery side of my business began when a friend who made jewellery at markets suggested that I try making earrings. It didn’t take long after I created my first bezel tray studs for dangling earrings to develop, and soon I was making pendants too.

I’m constantly experimenting to make my designs lighter and to push the boundaries of what I can use concrete for. I can't wait to see where this journey takes me next!

Slowly made things have been a huge part of my journey. With the incredibly fast turnover of trends, I truly believe there is a great need for people to make small, buy small, appreciate small, and support small.

All of my products are made in small batches in my backyard workshop. I take care to incorporate as much found, recycled, repurposed, and reused materials as possible in all of my ranges.
